The Rhode Island Department of Motor Vehicles has announced all face to face transactions at the Registry’s offices around the state will be by appointment only July 5th through the 17th. The new policy takes effect as the agency prepares to activate a new computer system.
“The goal behind this is to manage this computer transition as carefully as possible,” said Paul Grimadi, spokesman for the Division of Revenue which oversees the registry.
The Registry has been urging its customers to conduct their business this week at DMV offices around the state in advance of the roll out of the system.
Grimaldi says the Registry will study the use of reservations to see whether they can be a long term solution to the problems of long lines at the DMV.
“This ultimately becomes a real stress test to see if reservations work,” said Grimaldi.
Reservations can be made through the Registry’s website.
