PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Plans for a new Pawtucket Red Sox stadium are heading to Rhode Island lawmakers.
A spokeswoman for the city of Pawtucket said Tuesday the legislation is being drafted and will be filed in the State House this week.
The Triple-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox is seeking a $23 million state investment to help build a downtown ballpark.
Democratic Mayor Donald Grebien has been leading efforts to pitch the $83 million project, which would include investments from the team and city.
Some legislators are skeptical about the cost. It’s not clear which lawmakers will sponsor the bill.
Democratic state Sen. Donna Nesselbush, whose Pawtucket district includes the proposed stadium site, says it’s “a really exciting proposal” and legislators will “have to do our due diligence and really dive in.”
