PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Former Gov. Lincoln Chafee has criticized his successor’s decision to attend a Silicon Valley summit sponsored by the same company she spoke out against just days earlier.
Chafee told WPRO-AM’s Tara Granahan it was “hard to believe” Gov. Gina Raimondo attended a Deloitte-sponsored conference after she chided the company for its role in the failed rollout of the state’s new public benefits system. Listen to the full conversation below.
The event at Facebook’s California headquarters was led by Girls Who Code, an organization that aims to get more women in technology careers.
Raimondo was invited to speak at the summit a month ago to highlight Rhode Island’s public school computer science initiative.
The Democrat says Deloitte Consulting’s CEO personally pledged to fix the state’s faulty system following a sit-down where Raimondo expressed displeasure with the company’s product.
