PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The I-195 Redevelopment District Commission has heard a proposal for an estimated $27 million retail-residential complex on the former Interstate 195 land.
The Providence Journal reports that developers from Waldorf Capital Management LLC presented the proposed Chestnut Commons to the commission on Monday.
The 116,000-square-foot development would mix retail space with 89 housing units, about 30 covered parking spots and 5,000 square feet of landscaped open space in Providence.
It would also include a “skyway” connecting the Commons structure with the nearby Irons & Russell building.
The developers say the project would aim for a “seamless integration” with existing surroundings, including the Irons building and Johnson & Wales University.
Waldorf Capital Management has offices in Providence and New York.
