Rhode Island GOP Chairman Brandon Bell told WPRO’s Tara Granahan Wednesday night that he wasn’t surprised that a new poll finds that Republican Donald Trump is within 3 points of Democrat Hillary Clinton in Rhode Island.
“Look at the last couple of weeks, they’ve been very good to Mr. Trump.” Bell told Granahan. “Where has Hillary Clinton been? She’s been hiding, raising money. She hasn’t been anywhere! Mr Trump has been out there looking and acting presidential, talking about his policies and actual proposals. To see him down today by only 3 points … I’m not surprised.”
Emerson College released a poll on Wednesday that showed Clinton with 44%, Trump with 41%, Libertarian Gary Johnson with 8% and the Green Party’s Jill Stein with 4%. 3% were unsure. The poll has a margin of error of 3.4%. The poll shows Trump winning 24% of Sanders backers in Rhode Island,, where only 50% of those who supported Sanders plan to vote for Clinton.
Bell also told Granahan that he someday would like to see a female president, but that Clinton wasn’t the right person. “I want to see a female president, too. The right female.”
“Hillary is subhuman,” Bell laughed. “I’m not really sure she’d be a good example. She’s so dishonest. When she moves her lips, she’s basically lying.”
