WOONSOCKET, R.I. (AP) — A Rhode Island man has been hospitalized after being shot by police.
The Woonsocket Police Department says 19-year-old Mitchell Savard of Woonsocket was shot by an officer behind an apartment building on Read Street after a brief foot chase early on Sunday. Savard was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with wounds that police say are not life-threatening.
Police said Savard faces pending charges but did not elaborate. The department did not identify the officer who shot Savard. Police said more information would be released on Monday.
It was not immediately known if Savard has legal representation.
The shooting is being investigated by the Woonsocket Police Department, Rhode Island State Police and the state Attorney General’s Office.
