Those words from Chris Maxwell, the President and CEO of the RI Trucking Association Monday on The Tara Granahan Show. “Rhode Island has cancer… RhodeWorks is terminal cancer. It will erode the state’s economy,” Maxwell told Granahan.
Maxwell was referring to the road-improvement funding plan proposed by Gov. Gina Raimondo, which calls for the repair of the state’s deteriorating bridges paid for by truck tolls. His statements come after a court ruling in NY last week in favor of the American Trucking Association and against the state in a case that involved diversion of tolling funds by truckers to fund the state’s canal system.
ATA’s President and CEO, Chris Spear, said “We hope today’s ruling will not only end this practice in New York, but dissuade other states from financing their budget shortfalls on the backs of our industry.” Is this enough for RITA in it’s fight against RhodeWorks?
