A caller to the Tara Granahan Show on Monday evening says she received a phone call on her home land-line with a voice saying he was her “grandson.” The young man was very upset, saying he had an accident and needed her help. Alice said she was thoroughly convinced it was her grandson because the voice on the line had a lot of personal information about her family. “I would’ve swore it was him,” she said.
After just a few minutes, a woman got on the phone “representing her grandson” and gave Alice instructions on how to purchase two Visa cards for $500.00 each~ a total of $1,000.00. Alice then waited an hour and received another call in order to read off the card numbers to the scammers.
With a trembling voice, Alice told Tara, “they cleaned me out. That was my own stupid fault, I should’ve been smarter.” She also said while she called police, and they’re working on her case, she doesn’t believe she’ll get that money back. After hearing Alice’s story, many other listeners called in to the Tara Granahan Show saying they’ve received the same phone call but did not follow through with the scammers’ requests.
