PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A development team is looking for the state’s help to redevelop Rhode Island’s tallest building, which has been vacant for more than three years.
State lawmakers joined community and business leaders Thursday inside the skyscraper known locally as the Superman building to announce a new campaign to get it refurbished.
Senate Majority Leader Dominick Ruggerio, a North Providence Democrat, says lawmakers are looking at raising a $15 million cap on real estate tax credits to help finance the project but don’t have much time before this year’s legislative session ends.
High Rock Development bought the 1920s building in 2008. The last occupant, Bank of America, moved out in April 2013.
The company proposed converting it into apartments in 2013 with $39 million in state support, but the proposal died.
