WARWICK, R.I. (AP) — Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump is hitting hard at GOP rivals John Kasich and Ted Cruz the day before the primary in Rhode Island and four other states.
Trump rallied hundreds of supporters Monday afternoon at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Warwick at an event that featured WPRO’s John DePetro as Master of Ceremonies.
He attacked a newly announced alliance between his GOP competitors aiming to halt his nomination, calling it pathetic. He also won laughs and cheers for critiquing Kasich’s eating habits.
Trump was interrupted four times by small groups of protesters. His supporters shouted at them as security escorted them out.
Trump was the fourth major presidential candidate to visit Rhode Island in three days. Kasich spoke in Smithfield on Saturday. Democratic contenders Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders drew crowds in Central Falls and Providence on Saturday and Sunday.
