PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Authorities in Rhode Island say they have arrested 20 people, seized 330 pounds of marijuana and confiscated more than $330,000 in cash during an eight-month investigation into illegal gambling and drug dealing.
State Attorney General Peter Kilmartin and state police Superintendent Steven O’Donnell announced the busts on Friday.
Nineteen men and a woman were arrested Tuesday as local, state and federal authorities executed arrest and search warrants at several locations. All the suspects live in Rhode Island and many are from Cranston and Warwick.
The investigation began last year after officials say they received information about a bookmaking operation at The Cozy Grill Restaurant in Warwick.
Officials said the 330 pounds of marijuana is worth about $1.5 million. Authorities also seized three vehicles, computers and money counting machines.
