WPRO’s Tara Granahan is asking just that, after receiving a press release entitled, “First Gentleman Andy Moffit’s Public Schedule”. It lists a 9:00 am speaking engagement in Woonsocket.
While interviewing Rep. Doreen Costa (R- Exeter, North Kingstown), Granahan questioned Gov. Gina Raimondo’s press office working to promote such events, and questioned why state workers are issuing these releases for someone not on the state payroll. Costa replied, “They’re in the public eye for the wrong reasons. She has higher expectations, she does not care about Rhode Island, she wants to go to Washington. That’s my take on it. You have the first husband out there? Who’s paying for this now?”
As a result, Rep. Costa has issued a public records request for costs related to a “scheduler” for the First Gentleman, including salary information and ancillary expenses related to his schedule. In her own release Costa said, “If Governor Raimondo’s staff is putting out his schedule, then taxpayer money is going to her husband, whom we did not elect”.
