PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A Providence police dispatcher has been fired for allegedly tipping off her boyfriend and others that they were under investigation.
WPRI-TV reports that according to an affidavit supporting a search warrant filed in District Court, Jenny Roungreuang told her boyfriend, who has a long criminal record, that police were “running” his name as part of a drug investigation.
She was fired March 16.
Neither she nor her boyfriend has been criminally charged.
Authorities say the 26-year-old woman had worked for the police department for three months at an annual salary of about $44,000.
Providence Public Safety Commissioner Steven Pare says at no time was the safety of police officers at risk.
The investigation continues.
Attempts to reach Roungreuang were unsuccessful.
