NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) — A Catholic high school teacher in New Jersey has been charged with possessing child pornography.
Middlesex County prosecutors announced charges Thursday against Brother John Spalding, a history teacher at St. Joseph High School in Metuchen.
His attorney entered not guilty pleas on charges of possession and viewing of child pornography and endangering the welfare of a child. William Fetky told the judge that Spalding would post $75,000 bail and return to his home in Rhode Island.
Prosecutors said Spalding maintained child pornography on a computer at the school last June. They say the investigation began after an unidentified official contacted police.
The school is closed for winter break and no one was immediately available to comment.
