PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The head of a trucking group says the battle against tolls in Rhode Island is not over, even though legislation establishing tolls on certain trucks is now law.
Christopher Maxwell of the Rhode Island Trucking Association says the toll plan will fall apart on further scrutiny.
Gov. Gina Raimondo signed the plan into law Thursday night. The plan proposes charging up to $20 for an 18-wheeler to cross the state along Interstate 95.
The toll would pay for bridge repair and maintenance work throughout the state.
Maxwell’s group fought hard against the plan. He says there are many unanswered questions, such as whether the state can toll just trucks and certain kinds of trucks. He predicts legal action down the road.
