PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — PawSox Chairman Larry Lucchino says the team is considering improvements to McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket.
Lucchino told WPRI-TV the team has a “short-term focus” and is looking to make some minor upgrades.
The former Boston Red Sox president made the comments Tuesday evening at a Northern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce dinner. He wouldn’t comment on the team’s long-term plans.
Lucchino and the PawSox ownership group announced in 2015 it would move the Triple-A team to Providence after building a new stadium on riverfront land.
But opposition to the stadium mounted after the owners announced they wanted $120 million from taxpayers to subsidize it. The plan ultimately died because of significant hurdles.
Lucchino in November said Pawtucket was back on the table after spending months saying it wasn’t an option.
