PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza says Rhode Island’s capital city is poised for economic, educational and fiscal success.
Elorza made the comments Tuesday night during his annual State of the City address.
The Democrat says the city’s economy is “turning an important corner” and the city is ready to hit its stride.
The mayor says there are 30 major construction projects worth almost a half a billion dollars set to break ground in 2016. They’ll usher in the busiest construction season the city has seen in decades.
Elorza says administrative changes in the school system, improvements in governmental efficiency and an increased interest in Providence by major developers are all signs of better days ahead.
Council President Luis Aponte praised Elorza’s address, saying it reinforced the city’s priorities.
