PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — State officials are hoping to use the Rhode Island School of Design as a resource in the development of the former I-195 land.
The Providence Journal reports that a group of consultants considering the best use for the 26-acre land say officials should focus on design in addition to technology and health care when developing the area.
Commerce Corporation Secretary Stefan Pryor says that means tapping into the strengths of the design school.
Democratic Gov. Gina Raimondo says the convergence of design and engineering and technology is in demand.
Officials hope to develop the land to help create jobs and improve the economy.
The consultants released a draft vision statement in which they suggested creating an advisory council that would include representatives from universities, hospitals and other institutions.
