PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Police have arrested a Providence man they say tried to lure a 9-year-old boy into his car.
Police have charged 33-year-old Roy Bautista of Providence with one count of enticement of children. Bautista is scheduled to appear Wednesday in Providence District Court.
Maj. David Lapatin says two officers noticed Bautista and heard him tell the boy to “get in the car” after the child got off the bus Tuesday afternoon.
Police approached the car as the boy started walking away.
Police say Bautista fled after the officers showed their badges.
He was later found and arrested in Pawtucket.
A spokeswoman for the Rhode Island Public Defender says Bautista hasn’t been assigned an attorney yet.
The incident remains under investigation.
