Rhode Islanders are preparing for the first winter storm of the 2015 winter season and according to Joe Bucci of the Department of Transportation, additional crews and plow trucks are prepped and ready to ensure drivers’ safety. Compared to last year, more salt and plow trucks will be on the roads, totaling 126 trucks and nearly 150 crew members, Bucci said.
While standing in front of the state’s salt reserve pile on Monday morning, Bucci said crews will be out early to sand the roads, in anticipating of the few inches Rhode Island is expected to get.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory beginning at 8p.m. Monday until 1p.m. Tuesday. Snow will start around midnight then change to sleet and freezing rain just before Tuesday’s morning commute.
Bucci encouraged driver’s on Tuesday morning to use caution as roads may be slick.
