A man was stabbed to death in Providence Tuesday night, and at least three people were shot early Thursday afternoon, marring the hours before the Christmas holiday in the capital city.
Providence police said a man was found stabbed to death in an apartment on Moore Street on the South Side at about 6:30 Wednesday night.
Police Chief Colonel Hugh Clements identified the suspect as Miguel Tebalan-Rivera, 33 of Providence. He was charged with murder, arraigned in District Court and ordered held without bail. The chief would not immediately identify the victim, or what prompted the killing.
“We don’t want jeopardize the integrity of the case but we have a pretty good handle on it already,” Clements said. “It’s unfortunate but it’s resolved.” He noted this was the 15th homicide of 2015 in Providence.
“It’s never good, and its certainly even worse around the holidays. They’re all tough, yeah,” Clements said.
Details of the two shootings Thursday afternoon were still being gathered.
