Police arrested eight protesters Saturday on charges that they trespassed at a gas pipeline site in Burrillville, the scene of several previous protests.
The eight, identified as members of FANG (Fighting Against Natural Gas) and BASE (Burrillville Against Spectra Expansion) were taken into custody peacefully by Burrillville Police, as some 100 people waged a protest against the gas pipeline expansion project by Spectra Energy.
“Our town already has two gas pipelines, two gas compressor stations and a power plant. Now they want to double the amount of polluting infrastructure in our small community,” Kathy Martley, who lives near the project said in a statement. “We’re here to say no more and that we are ready to defend our home.”
