Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza was joined by members of Providence Public Safety Friday to unveil a new vehicle which they say will help police officers combat impaired driving.
The Blood Alcohol Testing (BAT) Mobile is a 40-foot vehicle equipped with testing computers and breathalyzer stations to help officer process suspected drunk drivers without having to return to their police stations.
The BAT mobile will be deployed on weekends, holidays, and other special occasions throughout the state.
The purchase of the vehicle was made possible by a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration grant to the city.
