In a joint meeting with government officials and local business leaders, Governor Gina Raimondo pointed to reduced wait times at state agencies as proof her initiatives to make government more efficient are working.
“Wait times are going down, processing times are going down, time to get a permit is going down, time to get a nursing license is going down,” said Raimondo.
The Governor introduced her Lean Government initiative several months ago in an effort to reduce waste. The Lean initiative is adapted from the private sector which uses open communication and benchmarks to determine if there is waste in their day-to-day operations.
Raimondo said the program is ideal for state government because it does not require extra spending.
“It’s about getting rid of waste,” said Raimondo “If a process takes 75 steps maybe it should only take 15 steps; let’s get rid of rid of the inefficiencies so we can do a better job for people.”
