PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – The head of the Rhode Island State Police says there’s still an open, ongoing criminal investigation into the state’s failed $75 million deal with ex-Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling’s video game company 38 Studios.
Col. Steven O’Donnell said Thursday the investigation is under review by state police and Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Kilmartin.
He says he can’t comment on its scope or timeline for finishing.
O’Donnell says it wouldn’t be appropriate to say whether former House Speaker Gordon Fox is being investigated.
Kilmartin’s office says it can’t comment on an open investigation.
Fox was sentenced on unrelated corruption charges in June. Kilmartin said then that no further investigations were pending against Fox, who was speaker when the deal was made.
Schilling’s company went bankrupt in 2012, leaving taxpayers on the hook.
