A tree in Warwick randomly fell on several cars in Warwick Monday afternoon, trapping several people in a car and blocking West Shore Road.
The tree brought down a power line and landing a several cars and trapping four people. Nobody was seriously injured and occupants of the vehicle were eventually freed.
Crews made quick work of the tree, cutting it up with chainsaws and hauling the branches away.
Mayor Scott Avedisian told the WPRO’s Gene Valicenti the city is lucky nobody was hurt and that crews are now on the lookout for trees which look compromised from the recent thunderstorm.
“Obviously this storm was very high intensity so we’re going to be looking for what they term in the tree business as hangers,” said Avedisian.
The mayor defined hangers as large detached branches which are supported by other trees in a canopy.
There is no word on whether or not the tree was actually weakened by the recent severe thunderstorm.
