The remains of Army First Sergeant Peter Andrew McKenna Jr. returned to Rhode Island Friday a week after the Bristol native died in action while serving in Afghanistan.
Family members were on hand at the Quonset Air National Guard base along with Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo and the state’s congressional delegation, as the plane carrying McKenna’s casket touched down.
The casket was flown from Dover Air Force base in Delaware.
McKenna will be laid to rest at St. Mary of the Bay Church in Warren on Monday.
All flags will fly half-staff throughout the state until McKenna’s funeral.
