After beating Delaware 3-2 in the East Regional finals, the Warwick North 11-12 year old softball team punched their ticket to the Little League World Series in Portland, Oregon.
“It’s a good journey with these girls,” said manager Kevin Detroia. “They fought hard to get there and we’re hoping to bring back a World Series title.”
The girls first won the district 3 championship before winning the state title before heading to the East Regionals.
Destinee Santiago, who plays in the outfield, said the secret to their success has been the ability to work together as a team. She says this year has been “awesome because it is my first year here and we got to do something that was pretty cool.”
The little league will pay for the girls and coaches to go, however it is expensive to send the families. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with the costs.
The team is scheduled to arrive on August 11 with their first game on August 14.
