PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – Rhode Island Hospital has renewed funding for its trauma and inflammation research training fellowship.
The $600,000 award from the National Institutes of Health will support scientists and clinicians studying trauma-related diseases and how the body reacts to them in the hospital’s division of surgical research.
Department of Surgery Chairman Dr. William Cioffi says trauma is the leading cause of death and disability in the United States.
He says studying traumatic injury and inflammation can advance understanding of all kinds of diseases.
Fellows are taught by faculty from the Alpert Medical School at Brown University.
The fellows have access to trauma and burn centers at Rhode Island Hospital to support their studies.
