WPRO’s Dan York says sources tell him that the Elorza administration is offering the Providence Firefighters Union a 10% pay increase if they agree to move from a 4 platoon system down to 3 platoons.
On his radio show, Yorke said “the offer is $124 a week, which is reportedly a 10% raise.” The 10% raise would be calculated as part of the pension income.
He also said the union has been offered a nearly 30% increase however it would not calculate against their pension.
Yorke says the union has been given a 5 p.m. deadline on Saturday to make a decision.
The news comes as an August 2 deadline looms as the firefighters will move from a 4 platoon system down to 3.
On Thursday, Elorza met with reporters and said they continue to have talks with the Union but a settlement has not been reached.
Head of the providence firefighters union Paul Doughty declined to comment. A message has been left with the Elorza administration.
