Police in East Providence arrested a Providence in the murder of an East Providence man in his Pawtucket Avenue barbershop.
Thomas Mosley, 33 was arrested without incident on Broad Street in Providence at 6:41 P.M. Tuesday, and charged with the August, 2014 killing of Yusef A’Vant, said East Providence Police Chief Christopher J. Parella. He would not disclose what led police to Mosley, nor would he say whether police recovered the murder weapon.
Mosley appeared in District Court in Providence, and was ordered held without bail at the ACI as a probation violator.
Parella said that A’Vant, who was gunned down inside his Krazy Kuts barbershop on Pawtucket Avenue, had a number of relatives involved in law enforcement, and the killing was personal for himself and other police officers.
“It hit close to home,” said Parella. “The victim has family and close friends in law enforcement. The offense took place in the very neighborhood where I live, so these aren’t just constituents, these are friends and family who live in this area.”
“We hope this arrest will begin to bring closure to the family and friends of Yusef A’Vant, and our thoughts and prayers go out to all of them,” Parella said.
