CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) – Cranston city officials say they have reached an agreement with a police captain accused of ordering a parking ticket blitz in the wards of two city councilmen who had voted against a police union contract.

Mayor Allan Fung’s office announced Wednesday it will drop its prosecution of Capt. Stephen Antonucci. In exchange, Antonucci will resign and stop pursuing a lawsuit he filed against the city.

Fung’s office says Antonucci can keep all the money he made after being put on paid leave last April.

Mayor Fung said in a statement the agreement will let the Cranston Police Department move on and save taxpayers thousands of dollars in legal costs.

Antonucci was the union president during the 2013 marking ticket sweep.
