A Providence man was charged in federal court for allegedly transporting a fourteen-year-old girl to New Jersey for the purpose of prostitution.
According to court documents, Paul Monteiro, 29, was arrested April 6, after he was found by police with the girl at a hotel in Franklin Township New Jersey. The arrest was made after a tip was left with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that a Rhode Island girl had been molested.
Upon Monteiro’s arrest, a video was found on his cell allegedly depicting himself engaged in a sexual act with the teen. A further investigation revealed Monteiro had posted an ad on backpage.com with a picture of the girl soliciting for sex. The minor claims she was forced to perform sexual acts on two other individuals.
If found guilty, Monterio faces up to 40 years in prison and $500,000 in fines.
The young teen was reported missing from a Providence group home in November of last year.
