PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – The governor’s office has received more than 500 emails and calls about a proposed Pawtucket Red Sox stadium in Providence, and 98 percent of those say they’re opposed.

Gov. Gina Raimondo’s spokeswoman says the governor has received 553 emails and telephone calls about the proposal, 540 of which have been against building a stadium in Providence.

The Senate president and Providence mayor say they’ve received calls from constituents, too, all opposed to the plan.

The House speaker’s unofficial tally of about 100 calls shows 25 percent are in favor and the rest are opposed.

There have been no formal public surveys on the stadium proposal.

The team’s owners are working with state lawmakers on a new stadium proposal after their first proposal for $120 million in state subsidies was rejected.
