You won’t be able to ride the Corkscrew or the Musik Express, but you can see free movies at Rocky Point Park this summer.
The Central Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce, with the help of National Grid and Entertainment Under the Stars, is hosting free outdoor movie nights on select Thursdays this summer.
“There’s going to be food trucks, [it’s] all family friendly. We have a face painter that’s coming,” said Lauren Slocum, President and CEO of the Center Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce. “Adults can also sit and just enjoy the gorgeous area and stars and enjoy a movie.”
Admission is free, and guests will be allowed inside the former amusement park gates for free parking.
Although Rocky Point has been transformed into a coastal greenspace, there are some elements of the theme park that remain.
“You’ll be able to go across what was once the Midway,” said Slocum. “And now it’s this beautiful, gorgeous grass area. Go stand under the old Arch that those Rhode Islanders that sued to attend will remember well. The Skyliner supports and cables are still up. The center to the Circle Swing is still there. So it’s very nostalgic.”
