The perjury charge levied against Shayanna Jenkins was dropped as soon as proceedings in Fall River Superior Court began Friday morning.
Judge Susan Garsh granted the prosecution’s motion to dismiss charges after only a few seconds on account of Jenkins’ testimony in the murder trial of ex-NFL star Aaron Hernandez.
Jenkins had pleaded not guilty to perjury for allegedly lying to the grand jury that investigated Lloyd’s death. She was granted immunity by the court in February, which compelled her to testify at Hernandez’s trial.
When asked outside of court if she was relieved, Jenkins replied “you have no idea.” Jenkins continued to say she is looking forward to starting her new life with her daughter.
When asked if her and Herandez are still together, her response was noncommittal at best.
Hernandez was sentenced to serve life in prison with no parole.
Her lawyers said the chargers should never have been brought up.
