The Rhode Island State Police held it 24th Annual Memorial Ceremony Thursday to honor the memory of deceased troopers and to thank troopers who risk their lives on a daily basis.
“I don’t think we thank our police officers enough; ever,” said Colonel Stephen O’Donnell.
“Today is the annual day we recognize State Police Troopers who have passed in the line of duty.”
The ceremony which featured a rifle salute, the playing of taps, and bagpipes honored the memory of the seven state troopers who have died in line of duty and all those who have served the state police.
“Policeman [wear this uniform] on a daily basis, they know what it means; it doesn’t mean just the enforcement piece, it’s the pride coming into work knowing it might be the wrong day,” O’Donnell said.
