PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – A Rhode Island businessman has been sentenced to prison for tax evasion, assisting in filing false corporate tax returns and other charges.
John Fall, of Cranston, was sentenced Tuesday by U.S. District Judge John J. McConnell to 30 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release. Fall was convicted Jan. 26 by a federal jury in Providence.
Prosecutors say Fall was a real estate consultant who handled finances for his wife and her businesses, including a dental practice in Providence.
They say he used numerous businesses, fake names and bank accounts to conceal his business and financial transactions.
Prosecutors say Fall also filed false tax returns for 1998 and 1999, and failed to file any from 2000 through 2010, then tried to obstruct an IRS audit.
