A pair of Barrington 12-year-old girls faces multiple charges after allegedly assaulting a 15-year-old girl at a sleepover last week.
Police say the girls refused to let the victim leave the home, where police say they taunted her, hit her with a hair brush, choked her, force fed her butter and ordered her to strip off her clothes.
Barrington Police Chief John LaCross said victim was eventually able to lock herself in a room and re-dress. She managed to escape almost an hour later and ran home.
“Anybody hearing this is going to be upset and disgusted with hearing these accusations,” said LaCross.
He said one of the 12-year-old girls and her mother admitted to the allegations. LaCross said it doesn’t appear any adults were home at the time of the incident.
“I would just say to parents, when it comes to sleepovers, just try to be careful and vigilant as to where your daughter is going,” he said. “Maybe talk to the parents and make sure they’re home at the time when your child is going to go for a sleepover.”
The girls now face charges of kidnapping, felony assault, simple assault and conspiracy. Their motive remains unclear. The matter now rests in the hands of the Family Court.
LaCross is asking anyone with more information to call their anonymous tipline at 401-437-3933.
