Governor Gina Raimondo signed an executive order creating a new initiative she believes will make state government more efficient and responsive.

The Governor’s Lean Government Initiative takes its cues from lean enterprise business models, and places emphasis on employees identifying inefficient practices and procedures.

“What lean is all about is making more efficient, more effective, and really empowering the employees to put their best ideas forward,” said Raimondo.

Raimondo signed the order while touring Richmond-based company VIBCO, which uses lean enterprise techniques to produce a more efficient work environment. The Governor says just as is the case with VIBCO, there will be clear signs her lean initiative is working on the state level.

“You’ll know it’s working if we have lower wait times, lower backlog, and better state employee morale,” said Raimondo.

The executive order also calls for current executive branch departments to start implementing lean practices.
