The Providence Board of Licenses will meet after the city filed a petition to revoke the Shark Bar and Grille’s licenses after it was revealed they had obtained a liquor licenses with a bribe.
Owners of the bar paid then-Vice Chairman of the board Gordon Fox $52,000 in 2008 to expedite a liquor license for the bar despite community protest.
Mayor Jorge Elorza says he wants to send a message to business owners in the city that corruption will not be tolerated.
“If they’re considering offering a bribe, or skirting the law there are going to be severe consequences,” said Elorza.
The Mayor says after meeting with his legal department, the city will make a solid case to have the licenses revoked.
