PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – The president of Brown University is denying suggestions that a student accused of drugging two female students was given preferential treatment because his father is on the school’s board of trustees.
The Providence Journal reports that Christina Paxson issued an open letter Thursday saying there is “no evidence whatsoever” that the student’s family ties influenced the school’s decision to not pursue disciplinary charges.
The university recently dropped its inquiry into drugging allegations by two female students who attended a party hosted Oct. 17 by the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. One student says she was sexually assaulted after the party.
Paxson’s letter comes a week after hundreds of students protested what they say is the school’s mishandling of the case. Many students say the student’s family ties were influential.
