A Taunton man is dead after an early morning fire broke out in a single family home on Tremont Street.
The fire was first reported around 4:00AM Thursday by a passing taxi cab driver. When firefighters arrived on-scene, an man was found dead inside the home. Neighbor Michael Johnson described the scene.
“The firemen tried to get in through the front door immediately,” said Johnson. “We just sat and waited and prayed and hoped that they were going to take him out; and after a while we realized it wasn’t going to happen.”
Neighbors say the resident of the home was Jeff Baker.
“He always chatted and knew everybody,” said neighbor Jim Rose. “You’ve got to appreciate every day you have.”
Investigators are working to determine what caused the deadly fire.
