February 2015 holds the record has the third snowiest on record, just falling short of the Blizzard of 1978.
The National Weather Service shows snow totals for the month of February add up to 26.7 inches of snow, compared to the 28.6 inches from February of 1978 where the only recorded snowfall was the infamous blizzard which crippled Rhode Island; in first place in the February of 1962 which totaled just over 30 inches of snow.
This year’s February is already the third coldest on record and could potentially move further up in the rankings according to Accuweather Meteorologist Elliot Abrams with cold weather expected to continue into March.
With the end of winter nowhere in sight, the MBTA has continued halt all trains south of Providence. To accommodate potential passengers who depend on the Wickford and TF Green lines for transportation, RIPTA has begun offering their services to fill the gap.
