BOSTON (AP) – One prospective juror in the trial of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev (joh-HAHR’ tsahr-NEYE’-ehv) has expressed sympathy for Tsarnaev and said she could not sentence him to death.
The woman, a former software engineer who now raises chickens, cited Tsarnaev’s age Friday and said she wonders if “he just made a really big mistake.” She said it would be difficult for her to think of Tsarnaev as an adult.
Tsarnaev was 19 at the time of the deadly attack on April 15, 2013. He is now 21.
Three people were killed and more than 260 were injured when twin bombs exploded near the marathon finish line.
Judge George O’Toole Jr. has individually questioned more than 100 prospective jurors over nine days. Many people have said they already believe Tsarnaev is guilty.
