In her third press conference of the day, Governor Gina Raimondo reminded residents to keep safe and stay indoors and that this storm will take time to clean up.
“It’s going to start hitting tonight, it’s going to hit us all day tomorrow, this is one of the most severe storms we’ve had and it’s going to take our crews days to clean up and days to get your power back,” said Raimondo.
The Governor said she activated the National Guard to be ready to assist in any emergency efforts. The Guard has been ordered to work in coordination with the RI Department of Transportation and National Grid.
Raimondo also said she expects the snow will intensify and continue into Tuesday with heavy gusts of wind.
“I am asking Rhode Islanders particularly in the coast to be prepared to be without power for several days,” said Raimondo.
The Governor said her experts expect the storm to deposit almost 30 inches of snow, however Accuweather is predicting between 24-36 inches of accumulation before the blizzard is done.
Raimondo reiterated that residents should stay home and “hunker down” and wait the storm out.
