The faithful can return once again to the Bishop McVinney Auditorium after restorations were completed, reopening the building after fifteen years of closure.
The auditorium named after Providence Bishop Russell McVinney had been closed since 2003 after concerns grew over the lack of fire protection in the building following the tragedy at the Station Night Club fire.
Renovations began in 2013 to install fire protection systems and other upgrades.
Monsieur Raymond Bastia said it was important to the building named after McVinney.
“It’s a reminder of our beginnings, the fact that this building was his vision along with working with the leaders of the church at that time and the leaders of Providence to develop Cathedral Square,” said Bastia.
The auditorium was originally constructed in 1967.
