Rhode Island Senator Jack Reed was briefly critical of President Barack Obama’s decision not to send a high ranking US official to the French unity rally held on Sunday to honor the cartoonists killed last week.
“We had our ambassador there, I think it would have bene more appropriate to have an even higher ranking individual, whomever that might have been, there,” said Reed.
Reed made the comments Monday, after 40 heads of state and millions of individuals marched through Paris over the weekend to honor the 17 victims of the terror attack on the humor magazine Charlie Hebdo.
Reed was quick to comment that he didn’t believe the Obama administration’s decision was a mistake, saying a higher ranking official would have lent greater gravitas and a sense of importance to the situation.
Several national publications have been critical of the President’s decision.
