Massachusetts Governor -elect Charlie Baker says he will review the appointment of Acting Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn III following the election of DA Sam Sutter as mayor of Fall River.
According to Massachusetts state law, Baker, who will be inaugurated on Thursday, could overturn any appointments made by his predecessor, Gov. Deval Patrick during Patrick’s final 15 days in office.
“We’re going to spend some time talking to a number of the key constituencies in Bristol County about this and make a decision in due course. I appreciate the fact the governor made an acting appointment, I thought that was important,” Baker, a Republican, told reporters in Providence Tuesday. He attended the inauguration of new Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo.
“I am in the process, and my Lieutenant Governor, Karyn Polito has been in the process of reaching out to a lot of the key constituencies in Bristol County to get their sense about what they want out of that office, and we’ll make a decision when we need to,” Baker said.
Quinn served as Co-First Assistant District Attorney along with William McCauley, who is on the team prosecuting former New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez for murder. Hernandez, who denies the charges, goes on trial on Friday.
