PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – Members of law enforcement are collecting toys for the annual “Kids, Cops and Christmas” program for needy children in Rhode Island.
The program kickoff is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon at the Statehouse. State police, the Police Chiefs’ Association and attorney general’s will bring unwrapped gifts, with the goal of providing 1,000 toys to 1,000 children this season. This is the program’s seventh year.
The children are affiliated with various community groups and service organizations, including Crossroads Rhode Island, Family Service of Rhode Island, A Children’s Friend, the Hispanic Ministerial Association of Rhode Island, Project: Night Vision, the Center for Southeast Asians, the Multi Service Center for All, the Mt. Hope Neighborhood Association, African Alliance and the Chad Brown Alumni Association.
Several businesses will also make toy donations.
